- ➤ Lansing officials enforced new public camping rules that led to citations for homeless residents such as Crystal White near Maguire Park — a move meant to heighten public safety. - ➤ Michigan State University’s W.J. Beal Botanical Garden is the oldest continuously operating garden in the United States and is listed on the Michigan State Register of Historic Places. The 7 acre garden on MSU’s north campus was started in 1873 by Professor W.J. Beal and holds over 2,200 plant species for visitors to enjoy. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ On Thursday, Aug. 7—a Lansing resident's FOIA request for an updated red-tagged properties list remains in progress after the city, using its allowed 10-day extension, failed to meet the promised reply by Tuesday. He said discussions with city officials revealed that concerns over property occupancy and the retirement of the staff member who compiled the list have contributed to the delay, and he plans to update his story daily until it is received.
