GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A judge ordered two Lansing property owners to install around 5 to 10 portable toilets on their land where a longstanding homeless encampment was established north of Old Town due to sanitation and safety concerns—each owner will bear the costs and weekly cleaning. - ➤ City Pulse reported that Lansing City Hall denied a request for a current red-tagged properties list made via FOIA, leaving the public without updated data for its Eyesore feature — the administration explained the list did not exist and raised public safety concerns while an appeal is in progress. This dispute began after the initial request was made in April and the city had postponed its response until early August. Lansing City Pulse
- ➤ Supporters of RxKids urged lawmakers on Aug. 12 to widen a cash aid program for pregnant moms, which has already helped over 3,000 families in eight communities including Flint. Lawmakers will decide if state funds will help grow the program — it gives $1,500 mid-pregnancy and $500 monthly until the baby is one. Lansing State Journal
