  • Cracker Barrel is unveiling a new logo and fall menu this season as part of its 'All the More' campaign—partnering with country singer Jordan Davis to bring southern flavors like buttermilk biscuits and brown sugar lattes while offering a complimentary classic side on Aug. 23—24.  Lansing State Journal
  • Dave Rademacher runs a hobby business called Good As Old Architectural Salvage that restores antique furniture, fixtures and signs from estate sales, online auctions and word-of-mouth while he connects with buyers on Instagram and TikTok. He operates from a century-old former grocery store on West Jefferson Street and plans to renovate the building to add a rental unit + continue his passion for unique restorations.  Lansing State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lansing Police Department is investigating after three teen males were shot late Thursday evening on the 3800 Block of Wilson Avenue—no arrests have been made and their conditions remain unknown.  FOX 47
  • Police are increasing enforcement of drunken driving laws from mid-August through Labor Day as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign—officials hope heightened patrols will reduce crashes linked to impaired driving.  Lansing State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lansing poet laureate Ruelaine Stokes has launched the 'We Are Water' poetry contest that will display winning entries on durable signs at Tollgate Drain Wetlands; local poets can submit up to three short poems (each 25 lines or less) until October 17th. The contest aims to celebrate our connection to clean water and the local environment.  WKAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Capital Area Transportation Authority approved its $70 million budget for fiscal 2026 last Wednesday despite a $12 million shortfall, and CEO Bradley Funkhouser warned that service cuts may happen next year if state and federal funding does not improve. No cuts will occur before the budget takes effect on Oct. 1—the board will soon begin planning a long-term strategy.  The State News
  • Governor Whitmer, state superintendent Rice, and board president Pugh urge lawmakers to pass a school aid budget—Whitmer wants it on her desk by Sept 15 so schools can start funding on Oct 1 as differences in spending plans slow progress.  Stacks 92.1
  • Michigan lawmakers on Thursday considered a proposal to suspend governor and legislator pay if the state budget was not passed by July 1—missing the deadline could lead to a government shutdown by Oct. 1—yet the resolution failed in a 70-30 vote and would require voter approval in 2026.  Bridge Michigan
