  • Eastside Fish Fry & Grill in Lansing was named Michigan’s top 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives' spot by Food Network for its tasty fried fish and chicken as well as its hiring of formerly incarcerated workers + owner Henry Meyer shared recipes during its Season 27 feature to highlight the restaurant's community impact.  WJIM AM

CRIME NEWS

  • A 40-year-old Gregory man died in a single-vehicle crash near Webberville on Sept 1 after reports said he drove recklessly and waved a firearm — officers later found his burning car in a wooded area.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 14, 2025, the Michigan DNR's Natural Resources Commission voted unanimously to restore year-round coyote hunting after strong pushback from hunters and conservation groups—prompting plans for a full season by 2026 to better manage the growing coyote population that affects farms and pets.  WJIM AM
  • Michigan lawmakers have stalled many bipartisan proposals—such as reforms on government transparency, a public safety trust fund, and school cellphone bans—amid a budget impasse as House and Senate members blame each other for the gridlock. Only about 4% of over 1,300 bills introduced this term have reached Gov. Whitmer’s desk.  Bridge Michigan

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Visitors can ride chairlifts at ski resorts to see Michigan's vibrant fall foliage from high viewpoints. The best colors occur during the last week of September and the first week of October — a perfect window to enjoy a unique fall experience.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • In the opening week of high school football, Ferris State commit Javari Funches led Everett to a 24-14 win with 283 yards rushing and four touchdowns—he also caused a fumble with three pass break-ups. Fowlerville ended a three-game losing streak by beating Corunna 39-14, earning their first season opener win since 2021.  Lansing State Journal
  • The One North LSJ high school athlete of the week poll features candidates from Everett, Lansing Christian and Ovid-Elsie with voting open until noon Wednesday to choose the boys winner for LSJ. Javari Funches had 35 carries with four touchdowns in football while Cullen MacKay and Dominic Martin both impressed with key goals in soccer—each athlete making standout contributions during games held from Aug. 25 to Aug. 30.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State football used a rotation strategy with six offensive linemen in their opener against Western Michigan, producing three touchdowns in the first half even though the second half saw a shutout. Coach Jim Michalczik said the Spartans will review the plan and adjust for the game against Boston College on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m.—aiming to add consistency for tougher opposition—.  Lansing State Journal
