CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police said 40-year-old Josiah Rettig from Gregory was found dead after his truck crashed and caught fire at Elm Road and Frost Road—an incident that began Monday morning at 3 a.m. when witnesses reported a shirtless, intoxicated man with a long gun threatening people on the 300 block of West Grand River Avenue. - ➤ The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious incident after a trail camera captured a person of interest on Monday, Sept. 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Dansville State Game Area—detectives ask anyone with information to call Detective Sergeant Brandon Doerr. Stacks 92.1
- ➤ Lansing Empowerment Network was named FOX 47’s 3 degree guarantee recipient for September for its work to reduce gun violence in the 517 area—providing funding to support families affected by shootings. The organization holds weekly Lansing 360 meetings with community members and law enforcement to tackle the issue directly. FOX 47

- ➤ Michigan will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 with events including a workshop at the Michigan History Center in Lansing on Sept. 8 and a four-day festival in downtown Lansing from Sept. 18 to 21—these events honor the heritage and contributions of Latino and Hispanic communities. - ➤ Michigan gas prices averaged $3.30 a gallon and are one penny higher than last week and 15 cents more than last year. Triple-A Michigan noted Ann Arbor recorded the highest price — $3.37 — while Marquette had the lowest at $3.13. Stacks 92.1
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State University’s Beal Botanical Garden welcomed a hardy kiwi variety that carries the campus name back after nearly a decade; the plant was donated by a Washington-state farmer and is expected to bear fruit in three to five years. WKAR

- ➤ Residents and businesses who paid franchise fees through the Lansing Board of Water and Light may receive cash refunds as part of a class action settlement covering fees charged from April 2019 to April 2025 — the agreement came amid claims that the fees violated Michigan’s Headlee Amendment.
