CRIME NEWS

  • Three Mt. Pleasant-area people face trial in Eaton County for allegedly stealing nearly $600,000 by forging documents (including a durable power of attorney) and they will attend status conferences on Sept. 11 and Oct. 17, the Attorney General's Office said.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, September 8, Michigan Avenue between Howard Street and Friendship Circle will be reduced to one lane each way and the Clippert Street intersection on Michigan Avenue will be closed for repairs—detour routes include a U-turn on Morgan Lane for northbound traffic and a U-turn on Detroit Street for southbound traffic—work is expected to continue until mid-October.  WJIM AM
  • Officials said they have begun contingency planning for a partial state government shutdown if Gov. Whitmer and lawmakers do not reach a budget deal by Oct. 1. The plan would close state parks and some driver license offices while nearly 50,000 state employees could face layoffs - though essential services such as the state police and prisons would continue operating.  Lansing State Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Michigan’s deer hunting opener on November 15 will be one of the busiest yet as hunters secure spots for a Saturday tradition—complete with buck poles and chili—promising a lively community event that will welcome both seasoned and new participants.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Week 2 high school football games in Greater Lansing saw Joel Cranmore throw for 277 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-8 win and Javari Funches run for 246 yards and five touchdowns in his team’s success. Other standouts including Traverse Moore, Liam Patrick, Troy Peters and Tyger Whitbeck, who set a school record with 397 passing yards, impressed local fans—showing strong talent in our community.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State played Boston College on Saturday at Spartan Stadium as the Eagles built an early advantage with multiple touchdowns from quarterback Dylan Lonergan. The Spartans, coming off a Week 1 win, struggled with turnovers and injuries to keep the game close by halftime.  Lansing State Journal
  • Traverse Moore, a senior and Central Michigan commit, led DeWitt to a 44-37 win over Mason on Sept 5 by rushing for 248 yards and three touchdowns—he also completed six passes for a touchdown, showcasing his steady leadership on the field.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State beat Boston College in a 42-40 double-overtime game that improved the Spartans’ record and eased pressure before upcoming road games. The team showed strong offense with quarterback Aidan Chiles and effective special teams—although the defense faced challenges against BC’s passing.  Lansing State Journal
