- ➤ Bangkok House remains open and continues serving Thai food while the shopping court is updated—its sign was taken down for construction near Saginaw and Cedar. Local diners can still enjoy their favorite dishes today. WJIM AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State University’s new provost Laura Lee McIntyre inherited a directive to cut 9% from budgets over the next two academic years, a move that may lead to about 200 layoffs as deans adjust teaching loads and trim expenses. She is also reviewing the One Team One Health initiative to merge two colleges and create a new College of Health Professions—further updates will come in November after faculty feedback is gathered. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan DNR said new deer hunting rules took effect Aug. 1, requiring mandatory harvest reporting and adjustments to antlerless seasons as deer season approaches this fall. The agency noted that the March ice storm and an ongoing EHD outbreak in the southern Lower Peninsula may reduce deer numbers in high-snowfall areas of the U.P.—a change that could impact hunters statewide. - ➤ The Michigan House of Representatives is adding eight session days—September 27th, September 29th, October 3rd to October 6th, and October 10th to October 11th—to its calendar as the budget deal remains at risk before Tuesday’s deadline. Majority Floor Leader Bryan Posthumus said he expects not all the days will be needed if a deal is reached soon. Stacks 92.1
- ➤ Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced that all branch offices will close on October 1 if the state budget is not approved by Tuesday—online services and self-service stations will remain available for those who need to complete business. Benson also said she will prioritize the voices of working people if elected governor in 2026—stating that a budget shutdown shows a broken system. Stacks 92.1

- ➤ Crown Grill, a new restaurant near Old Town at 902 E César E. Chávez Avenue in Lansing, serves a wide range of foods including fried catfish, burgers, and falafel—its menu offers piping hot, lightly breaded catfish and crisp onion rings. - ➤ Big Ten coaches picked MSU hockey as the favorite to win a third straight league title—this decision came after the Spartans won the last two championships. The team will open the season on Oct. 3 with an exhibition and start regular season games on Oct. 9. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles led the Spartans to a 3—1 start with improved passing and a single interception in four games, a change from his 2024 season when he threw 11 interceptions. His better decision-making has boosted the team’s scoring and the offense will build on his growth as they face Nebraska on Oct. 4. The State News
- ➤ Senior Jadon Bender led DeWitt High School football to a record of 4 to 0 with a 38 to 28 road win over Galloway Westland on Sept. 19; he scored with an interception, a 26 yard touchdown reception, and a 50 yard onside kick return—each play proving key in the win. Lansing State Journal
