COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over a dozen grill masters competed at the Red White and Blue BBQ contest at American Legion Post 48 in Grand Ledge on Saturday to raise funds for veteran and youth programs & the team from the Army Aviation Support Facility won best BBQ.  FOX 47
  • Old Town celebrated its first Downtown Day when the Old Town Commercial Association hosted a Saturday event in Lansing with art projects, shopping deals, and historical tours—following Governor Whitmer’s proclamation to promote local neighborhoods.  FOX 47

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Gaming Control Board banned eight unlicensed online gambling sites — sites that offered no protection for players — and warned customers to avoid them.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State volleyball won its match 3-0 against Michigan by clinching the decisive match point—key plays secured the win in a well-fought game.  Lansing State Journal
  • On Sept 26, Williamston football won 43-0 against St. Johns in the CAAC Red game—highlights show key plays that helped the Hornets dominate the field.  Lansing State Journal
  • In Week 5 of high school football in Greater Lansing, Griffin Long of Morrice led with 229 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a key win—other players like Zach Litwiller of Fulton and Traverse Moore of DeWitt also posted strong numbers. The compiled stats highlight a competitive week of play—each team showing strong contributions in passing, rushing, and defense.  Lansing State Journal
  • Haslett football won a game over Fowlerville by a score of 20 to 12 in a CAAC Red matchup. JonQuavion Thomas caught a 55 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and later ran three yards to score while Korey Amachree rushed 64 yards for a touchdown (the win improved their record to 4 to 1 and they will face undefeated Williamston next week).  Lansing State Journal
  • The Lansing Lugnuts shared their 2025 season numbers today. They sold 89,203 beers and 44,922 hotdogs with 275,713 fans at Jackson Field—numbers that show more beers were sold than hotdogs.  WJIM AM
  • Haslett beat Fowlerville 20-12 on Sept 26 when JonQuavion Thomas scored two touchdowns and the defense held Fowlerville to 12 points—role players stepped up when star Kory Amachree struggled. The Vikings will host undefeated Williamston on Oct 3 and plan to work on penalties and tackling for their homecoming game.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State's volleyball team swept rival Michigan at Breslin Center on Sept. 27 — they won 25-14, 25-22, 25-19 and earned coach Kristen Kelsay's first Big Ten win. Freshman Bianca Mumcular led the team with 15 kills as the Spartans improved to an 11-1 record.  Lansing State Journal
  • MSU football's defense has struggled in four games and will work to improve its passing coverage, third down stops, and red zone defense during its bye week—these changes are needed before the team faces Nebraska on Oct. 4.  The State News
