COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Neighbors gathered at Woldumar Nature Center on Sunday to celebrate 45 years of preserving the Moon Cabin, a historic structure built in the 1860s that was moved in the 1980s to avoid demolition+ The celebration underscored the cabin’s role in teaching locals about Michigan history and environmental practices.  FOX 47
  • On Sunday, over 70 neighbors ran a 5k called Run to Recovery at Lansing Shuffle to raise funds for local groups—Loaves and Fishes homeless shelter and Endeavor House, a transitional housing program. Stephen McCorry, who organized the event based on his personal experience with addiction, said he hopes the annual fundraiser will continue to support recovery services.  FOX 47

  • Great Harvest Bakery & Café opened on Thursday, September 25 on Washington Avenue in downtown Lansing, taking over the former Z!Eats spot and offering fresh baked goods and local favorites.  WJIM AM

  • On September 22, 2025, Gary Fairfax showcased his domed home in Delta Township known as the House of the Future to reveal his unique collection—featuring prints from fantasy artist Frazetta, Disney memorabilia, and unusual decor like a raptor display and castle doors.  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan DNR launches Deer Drop-In Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Monday through December to thank local hunters in Lansing—offering free patches, stickers and field-dressing gloves and a chance to talk with officers without needing to present a harvested deer.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Sean McCann has introduced a bill that will add water bottles to Michigan’s bottle deposit law, which now covers only soda and beer containers. If passed in 2026, the law will grant a 10¢ refund on water bottles—retailers say the change may bring logistical challenges.  WJIM AM
  • Michigan crews are flushing fire hydrants to clear sediment and help maintain water pressure+ East Lansing will start its work on October 6 and residents are asked to skip laundry until the water clears.  WJIM AM
  • Michigan law requires drivers to stay in the right lane on roads with two lanes unless passing — and those who slow traffic by staying in the left lane risk a civil infraction.  WJIM AM

  • Gary Fairfax gave the State Journal a tour inside his unique domed home in Delta Township—known as the Home of the Future.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State’s ice hockey team will start its fourth season under head coach Adam Nightingale on October 3 with an exhibition game against Windsor at 6 p.m. The team, which includes many new CHL players, will test its teamwork—an early measure of its potential this season.  The State News
  • Michigan State's women's volleyball team hosted Michigan Saturday night at the Breslin Center and swept the Wolverines in three sets to earn their first Big Ten win – coach Kristen Kelsay also got her first conference win. The Spartans will look to secure a second Big Ten win when they travel to face Northwestern on Oct. 3 at 8 p.m.  The State News
