COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foosball players from around the country and abroad competed in Delta Township Saturday at the Great Lakes Classic Foosball Championship to raise funds for placing foosball tables in local schools. Michael Stahl from Foosball Clubs USA said the event was designed to build youth community — giving more children a chance to play.  FOX 47

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thirteen original residents and several spouses returned for a 58th reunion at Holden Hall on October 1, where they toured the campus, enjoyed meals, and celebrated shared memories from the late 60s. The reunion—organized by Paul Vigilanti and supported by MSU Alumni Engagement—showed how bonds from early college years have lasted for decades.  The State News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan's warm fall has kept stink bugs from invading many homes, and pest control experts warn that the insects will move in when temperatures drop. Residents are advised to seal gaps in windows and doors to help prevent infestations.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan law lets property owners trim branches from neighbors' trees up to the property line (MCL 750.382) without permission, but damage or killing the tree can lead to a misdemeanor. Falling leaves are considered a natural product that becomes the owner's cleaning responsibility.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • MSU hockey shut out the Windsor Lancers 4-0 in an exhibition game Friday night at Munn Ice Arena—nine players made their debut as the Spartans marked their return to the ice. The win puts the team in a strong position as they prepare to host the New Hampshire Wildcats on Oct. 9 in a two-game series.  The State News
  • MSU held its Izzone campout Friday night to start the new basketball season as students gathered near Spartan Stadium and the Breslin Center — coach Tom Izzo and players cheered and set plans for the season ahead. The women’s team begins on Oct. 22 and the men’s team will tip off on Oct. 23 at home.  The State News
  • Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles left the game after a hard hit in the second quarter against Nebraska but returned after a quick five-minute check by trainers—he put his helmet back on and rejoined the offense before halftime.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State football lost 38—27 to Nebraska on Saturday as a weak offense and special teams cost the Spartans a win—defensive stops kept the game close. Redshirt freshman Alessio Milovjevic replaced an injured Aidan Chiles and led a crucial 75-yard drive that highlighted the need for a more effective offensive approach.  Lansing State Journal
