- ➤ Over the past nine months, Lansing’s restaurant scene grew with over 40 new eateries opening as longtime favorites like Spagnuolo’s closed their doors. New spots will open soon across the region — Anna’s House in Delta Township launches on October 27 and others are planned for spring, with some dates still to be set. WJIM AM

- ➤ The People's Church in East Lansing added new safety measures after last week's deadly attack at a Grand Blanc church that left four dead and eight injured—leaders said they locked most doors during services while keeping the space welcoming. FOX 47
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ MSU’s Surplus Store held its Fall Fest on Saturday with pumpkin carving, craft making, clothing swap and recycling center tours—drawing community members and students to learn about sustainability. Spartan Upcycle will host a pumpkin seed roast on Oct. 9 and the Office of Sustainability will run a resource fair on Oct. 16 to offer more sustainable activities. The State News
- ➤ The Michigan DNR said the 2025 deer season will start with a steady deer population of about 2 million while ice storms in March may block paths and EHD has been reported in 8 counties. Hunters are advised to check road conditions and report their harvest within 72 hours. WJIM AM
- ➤ Michigan’s Great Lakes face threats from invasive sea lampreys and snakeheads — the lampreys attach to native fish while the snakeheads, capable of walking on land, breed quickly and endanger local species. WJIM AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers passed an $80 billion budget that funds over $10,000 per student and will invest more than $1 billion in road repairs this year—rising to $1.8 billion by 2030. Residents will pay no taxes on tips or overtime as the measure now heads to the governor’s desk. FOX 47
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Michigan State Spartans lost to Nebraska Cornhuskers 38 to 27 as special teams errors and offensive struggles cost them key opportunities in the game. A muffed kickoff — which shifted momentum — proved pivotal, and they will face UCLA Bruins in their homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 11. The State News
- ➤ Michigan State lost 38-27 to Nebraska on Oct 4 amid key mistakes and special teams errors — Coach Jonathan Smith said the Spartans felt genuine frustration and must improve before they host UCLA on Oct 11. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Michigan State hockey is ranked No. 3 nationally and is led by coach Adam Nightingale who has brought in 13 new players and top NHL draft picks—aiming to win the Big Ten championship.
