COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Journey to Justice Tour stops at the East Walk and Steps of the Capitol from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise awareness on solitary confinement & feature poetry performances, while later the Petals & Pinecones fundraiser dinner marks 15 years of supporting local young women and the community observes Conflict Resolution Day, a 20-year tradition promoting peaceful solutions.  FOX 47
  • Residents living in a homeless camp on private property near Dietrich Park have continued to shelter there despite a city lawsuit filed in May against two property owners, with 60-70 people reported living on the site. Tony Vincent and other residents described tents being moved and new fencing installed—signs that the dispute over property boundaries remains unresolved.  Lansing State Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • General Motors will build the new Cadillac CT5 sedan at Lansing’s Grand River Assembly Plant just south of downtown—despite earlier plans for an electric facility—and the car will be gas powered. GM will begin production of the next CT5 in a future model year after a $1.25 billion retooling while retiring the current CT4 and CT5 models after 2026.  Stacks 92.1

  • On Oct.12, MSUFCU removed card-skimming devices from select ATMs after about two dozen members were notified+ the credit union urges customers to review transactions and set up alerts+ while law enforcement investigates the incident.  WJIM AM

  • Mid-Michigan is offering a variety of haunted attractions for Halloween thrills including Leslie's Awaken Haunt near Lansing, Rotten Manor in Holly, Terror on 27 in Ashley, Slaughterhouse Adventure & Grand River Corn Maze in Fowlerville, and Shawhaven Haunted Farm in Mason—each venue features unique walk-through mazes, escape rooms, or themed experiences with tickets starting at $25 and operating on select October dates.  Lansing State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Recent records show that MSU Title IX investigators shared report drafts and evidence with university lawyers during cases, including the high-profile investigation of former football coach Mel Tucker. The documents raise questions about whether legal advice blurred the line between guidance and interference—MSU officials insist all exchanges were meant to follow policy.  The State News
  • Lansing’s nearly 100-year-old Don Johnson Fieldhouse will soon receive major renovations with $1.2 million in state funding—an additional $5.2 million is set to expand the Lansing Student Development Program.  Stacks 92.1

HEALTH NEWS

  • MSU hosted Fresh Check Day on Oct.15 in People’s Park to support student mental health during Disability Pride Month—organizers say the event provided essential connections and resources, while free flu shot clinics and resilience courses will run through November. This series of events, including mental health first aid training, is designed to assist both students and staff in managing stress.  The State News
  • On Oct 15, U-M Health-Sparrow hosted a Halloween party by Spirit Halloween for young patients who picked costumes and made crafts. The event at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Lansing brought a festive touch to the day—offering a fun experience for the children.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State’s Triathlon Club rose to a national ranking of number 6 after a strong finish at nationals this past spring—club president Jacob Teter said early morning workouts and fundraisers helped the team improve. The group trains indoors during Michigan winters and will hold its Sparty Tri fundraiser on Nov. 9 at IM West as it builds a balanced co-ed roster.  WKAR
  • LiveSportsonTV ranked 93 tailgating dishes nationwide and found that Detroit-style coney dogs are the top choice for Lions fans at No. 34—Michigan State fans prefer pasties at No. 77 and Wolverines fans favor whitefish dip at No. 79. The survey polled 3,045 football fans in October to capture diverse regional tastes in tailgating foods.  Lansing State Journal
  • Former players, coaches and fans recalled the 10 seconds at the end of the 2015 Michigan versus Michigan State game—a play that ended in chaos and shaped the rivalry.
