Good morning, Lansing. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 26th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Officials unveiled a $3.6 million renovation on October 24 that turned Burchard Park into Fish Ladder Music Park; the park now has a new mini-amphitheater with seating for about 350, a sound booth, a mural, and improved lighting along the Grand River—part of a larger plan to revitalize the waterfront. The project was funded partly with a $1.7 million state allocation and coordinated by the Capital Region Community Foundation.  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan will gain an extra hour when Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on November 2, so residents with manual clocks should set them back one hour on November 1 (if needed) to adjust for shorter daylight (sunrise and sunset coming earlier) as the season continues.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State beat Northern Michigan 6-2 on Oct. 26 after a strong third period when they scored four goals. Freshman goalie Melvin Strahl got his first win plus both Tiernan Shoudy and Tommi Mannisto scored two goals each as the Spartans built a five-game win streak.  Lansing State Journal
  • Columnist Graham Couch graded the Michigan State team after their 31-20 loss to Michigan, noting that the offense struggled with short passing and penalties while the defense and special teams performed better. He said the game was the season's final chance to turn things around — the current performance leaves little hope for a comeback.  Lansing State Journal
  • At the Oct. 24 cross country regionals, the DeWitt girls had all five runners in the top 16 to win the Division 2 title on their home course — while the Alma boys won their regional title with Larson finishing first in 15:25.5.  Lansing State Journal
  • Coaches reported the top performers of Week 9 high school football games in Greater Lansing — junior quarterback Joel Cranmore from Leslie passed for 240 yards and five touchdowns in a win while senior quarterback Liam Patrick from Owosso threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-14 victory.  Lansing State Journal
