EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced grants of $35.9 million to add 87 electric and 10 propane school buses across 23 districts. Lansing Public Schools will get 10 electric buses as part of the Clean Bus Energy program—local schools covering part of the cost.  WJIM AM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan DNR is releasing rooster pheasants at 13 state game areas in southern Michigan from now through November 14—another release will run from December 1 through December 31. Hunters must secure a $25 license for public lands and follow the limit of two birds per day.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Greater Lansing high school football teams will begin the MHSAA playoffs with matchups set in several divisions — including games like Owosso at DeWitt and Sexton at Williamston. Other contests in Division 6, 7, 8 and an 8-player Division 2 round will add regional variety to the opening round.  Lansing State Journal
  • MSU women’s soccer beat Nebraska 1-0 in their final regular season game to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament—Emerson Sargeant scored the lone goal while Noelle Henning kept a clean sheet. The Spartans will travel to West Lafayette to face the winner of the Northwestern and Southern California tie with kickoff at 3:30 p.m.  The State News
  • MSU hockey swept the Northern Michigan Wildcats with a 4-0 shutout and a 6-2 win—improving their 5-1-0 record. Coach Adam Nightingale said the team shined on penalty kills—steps they plan to build on before Big Ten play starting Nov. 7.  The State News
  • Highlights from Weeks 1 to 9 of high school football in Greater Lansing show exciting plays and close scores from local teams. Fans can watch the key moments as the season continues with additional games coming soon.  Lansing State Journal
  • A controversial offside call — which nullified a potential fumble recovery — cost Michigan State its defensive captain Jordan Hall for the quarter and helped Michigan win 31–20 on Oct. 25. The extra penalties — 12 for 105 yards — added to MSU's struggles and deepened the rivalry drama.  The State News
  • MSU men's soccer lost 2-0 to Kansas City in their final nonconference match at DeMartin Stadium on Senior Day, and head coach Damon Rensing honored seven graduating players. Kansas City scored from a corner and an own goal—leading MSU to review its defensive play as they prepare to travel to Rutgers on Halloween.  The State News
