COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, St. Johns Fire Chief Kevin Douglas advised residents to test smoke detectors by pressing the center button and replace batteries as needed—he also urged anyone without a working detector to contact the local fire department for free installation.  FOX 47
  • The Wilson Center project in St. Johns will begin roof construction this week after years of delays that have raised community concerns. The project aims to add new apartments and community spaces – historic tax credit approval has been slowed by the federal shutdown.  FOX 47

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts said that smart food donations that include high-fiber and high-protein items like beans, lentils, and canned fish helped people stay fuller longer. Dietitian Sarah Smith from University of Michigan Health—Sparrow advised donors to check local pantry needs and noted that water might ease feelings of hunger.  WKAR

  • The MSU men’s basketball team opens its season today at 7 p.m. against Colgate with four captains leading a mix of veterans, transfers, and top freshmen as they search for a go-to player—an adjustment after last season's roster changes.  The State News
  • Redshirt freshman quarterback Alessio Milivojevic threw for 301 yards and a touchdown in his first start as Michigan State pushed into overtime before falling 23—20 to Minnesota.
