GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Consumers Energy said the cost to run its J.H. Campbell coal plant near Lake Michigan has topped $80 million through September 30 because an emergency order from the U.S. Department of Energy forced it to keep operating—this order comes despite plans to shut the plant down. The company said it will ask regulators later this year to allow it to pass these costs on to customers as it meets energy needs. Michigan Public Radio
- ➤ MDOT said that starting Monday the eastbound I-496 exit to Creyts Road in Eaton County was closed for pavement work and will reopen Monday, Nov. 10—other major projects on M-99 and the US-127 rebuild are nearing completion with I-96 ramps already open. Stacks 92.1

- ➤ The Michigan High School Athletic Association has posted its district round schedule for the volleyball state tournament, with games running from November 3 to November 7 at sites including Grand Ledge, Okemos, Haslett, and East Lansing—teams compete in Divisions 1 through 4 to move on.
