- ➤ US News released data showing Michigan’s odds of hitting an animal—1 in 59—are only surpassed by West Virginia and Montana as drivers face increased risks during fall hunting season. WJIM AM

- ➤ A new Ashley Furniture store opened at Meridian Mall in Okemos, creating over 50 jobs and offering both a full showroom and an outlet. The 80,000-square-foot location, operated by J&S Furniture, is part of a more than $2,000,000 investment that includes Michigan’s largest Sleep Gallery — one of the largest in the country. FOX 47

- ➤ The East Lansing Film Festival opened at Studio C in Meridian Mall with a screening of 'Souleymane's Story,' a film about an asylum seeker fighting for a new start. The festival, now in its 28th year, will run until Nov. 13 — showing more than 40 films that include both feature-length and short documentaries. The State News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan’s 2025 deer opener starts on Saturday, November 15 — the first Saturday opener in 11 years — and is expected to draw more hunters and raise license sales after last year's high deer harvest. WJIM AM

- ➤ Lansing activated its Code Blue cold weather plan that will run until 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, allowing local shelters to stay open longer and exceed capacity—Mayor Andy Schor coordinated with city agencies to launch the measure. Residents can call 211 for more services while city buildings close on Tuesday for Veteran's Day. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Michigan State's women's soccer team lost to Washington in the Big Ten tournament final in a penalty shootout after 110 minutes of play—Washington made all four of its shootout attempts while MSU had two stops—and the Spartans will learn their NCAA tournament draw at 4 p.m. today. - ➤ MSU women's basketball won 92-60 over Eastern Michigan on November 9th at Breslin Center, marking a 2-0 start as transfer guard Rashunda Jones scored 15 points, five assists and four rebounds in 27 minutes—she scored 11 points in the second quarter to help build a double-digit lead. - ➤ Michigan State women's soccer lost the Big Ten Championship match after a 1-1 draw with Washington — the penalty shootout ended the game and honored the late goalkeeper Mia Hamant, who battled kidney cancer. Washington earned an automatic NCAA tournament bid while MSU will continue its season after a hard-fought contest. The State News
- ➤ Greater Lansing high school volleyball teams are set to compete in the MHSAA tournament regionals with games starting Tuesday, Nov. 11 and finals scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13. The pairings span Divisions 1–4 at venues in Masont, Fowlerville, Fremont, Grayling, Montrose Hill McCloy, White Cloud, Carson City, and Petersburg Summerfield — featuring matchups from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Freshman Cam Ward led Michigan State to a 69-66 win over Arkansas at Breslin Center as he earned his first double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds—helping the team overcome a late 8-0 run.
