COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local roofing company fixed veteran James Clark’s collapsing roof after a severe structural failure threatened his home and prompted a city repair order. Owner Collin Scott and his team at Streamline Enterprises completed the work before Veterans Day—helping the veteran feel safe at home.  FOX 47
  • Judge Rosemarie Aquilina granted a 90-day extension for the Fallen Angels encampment — a temporary fix as winter nears and shelters remain full — and local advocates say long-term housing solutions are still needed.  FOX 47
  • Community members will gather on Saturday, November 22 at Ann Street Plaza from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will include an official tree lighting at 6 p.m., horse and pony rides, Frozen characters, and a special eGift card deal — additional amenities such as extra seating and hot drinks provided by local sponsors will enhance the celebration.  City of East Lansing

CULTURE NEWS

  • MSU’s opera department will present Ricky Ian Gordon’s revamped Grapes of Wrath at Fairchild Theatre, with performances on Nov. 19 and on Nov. 21 to 23. Head Melanie Helton said the updated two-act production will feature about 35 students on stage and a student orchestra led by Octavio Mas Arocas.  Lansing State Journal

  • State Journal photographer Nick King is exploring Okemos' 15-acre Red Cedar Glen Land Preserve at 1389 Sylvan Glen Drive where easy trails wind through woods, over hills and along the Red Cedar River. The park connects to Legg Park by a 1.6-mile loop and offers a quiet spot for hikers and dog owners — visitors should wear sturdy shoes when trails are wet.  Lansing State Journal

  • Dr. Jeremiah Madedorn from Sparrow Health said respiratory illnesses including COVID-19, flu and pneumonia are rising in mid-Michigan; he urged residents to get vaccinated and practice extra hygiene—like hand washing—to protect vulnerable groups and reduce hospitalizations.  WKAR

  • Today, gun season for deer hunting begins across Michigan as safety experts urge hunters to wear hunter orange, confirm their target, and share their location in case of an emergency. SPORTS NEWS

  • Paul VanDam, a senior from East Lansing, signed with Michigan State on November 12 after a spring season in which he posted a 2.01 ERA and struck out 57 in 41⅔ innings.
