COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, Mason celebrated its 50th Christmas Craft Show with more than 60 local vendors at 20 different spots where holiday shoppers gathered. Organizers said the event brought neighbors together for shopping and will return next year.  FOX 47
  • Coaches Pub hosted its first Buck Pole Saturday to kick off Michigan's deer hunting season as neighbors displayed their harvests and shared their experiences. Owner Matthew Gillett said the event aimed to inspire kids to get outdoors—encouraging them to learn the local hunting tradition.  FOX 47

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan confirmed a case of Chronic Wasting Disease in a weak doe in Allegan County—making it the 17th county with a reported case; no infections in people or pets have been found. The DNR urges hunters to wear gloves when field dressing and to report sick deer for early detection.  WJIM AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is monitoring 10 northern counties for bovine tuberculosis that can affect deer, cattle, and rarely people. Hunters in these areas are asked to submit deer heads for testing and use gloves when field dressing — the results will help track the disease spread.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior quarterback Ty Thelen led Westphalia's Pirates to a 42 to 21 win over Ithaca on November 14th — he scored six touchdowns with long runs that reset the team's standard. His 283 yards rushing helped the undefeated team win their first regional title since 2021 and advance to the state semifinals.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State will play Penn State at Spartan Stadium at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday. Coach Jonathan Smith is expected to start redshirt freshman Alessio Milivojevic, and experts say that if Penn State stays focused the Nittany Lions may win 25 to 20 in a close game.  Lansing State Journal
  • DeWitt sophomore Channing Ridley showed his speed by scoring on a 91‐yard kickoff return, a 30‐yard catch and a 67‐yard run to help his team win 70—26 against Fenton in the Division 3 regional final. He finished with 145 yards on seven carries and two catches for 40 yards, proving he is a key player for the Panthers.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State hockey won 3-1 in South Bend against Notre Dame after freshman forward Ryker Lee scored 90 seconds into the game—MSU never trailed and completed a sweep to reach a nine-game winning streak. The team will host Wisconsin next weekend for two Big Ten games.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State lost to No. 11 Wisconsin in straight sets at Breslin today—errors and early hesitation kept the Spartans from capitalizing on their opportunities. The team will focus on improvements ahead of their road game against University of Michigan.  The State News
  • Michigan State football lost 28-10 to Penn State as the defense held the opposing offense in check for three quarters but faltered in the fourth quarter—letting Penn State take control with strong running plays. The Spartans will travel to Iowa next Saturday and remain out of bowl contention.  The State News
  • Michigan State started its final home game with an exciting 57-yard run by Elijah Tau-Tolliver + later, poor third-down conversions and protection issues led to a 28-10 loss to Penn State that ended bowl hopes for the fourth straight season. The Spartans will travel to Iowa at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday for their final road game.  The State News
