- ➤ Miss Universe Japan 2024, Kaya Chakrabortty, visited Michigan State University on Nov 13 with students, teachers, and local fans to celebrate her win and discuss Japanese ideas of beauty—she explained how Japan’s cute style differs from American looks and shared her mixed background during a Q&A and reception. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA reported that while Michigan’s gas prices fell 9 cents from last week, drivers in the Lansing area still pay about $3.03 per gallon for regular unleaded—among the highest in the state with Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit similarly high. - ➤ Michigan State University was ranked 42nd on the Princeton Review Top 50 Green Colleges list—Grand Valley State University was the only other Michigan school in the top 50; MSU offers over 800 courses that include sustainability topics and has launched new initiatives to boost its environmental responsibility on campus. - ➤ A new Michigan license plate honoring women veterans is now available with an image of a veteran and the slogan 'Her Service Our Freedom'—Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said it highlights the service of women in the military. This is the 33rd plate design in a series that honors over 44,000 women veterans who make up 9% of the state's veteran population. Stacks 92.1
- ➤ The Social Security Administration announced that over 2 million Michigan recipients will see a 2.8% cost of living adjustment beginning in January, with benefits increasing by about 56 dollars per month. Additional changes include higher earnings limits for early retirees and adjustments to the maximum taxable earnings, while COLA notices will appear in my Social Security accounts in late November.
