COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nick King in his ongoing A Walk in the Park series is exploring Trager Park at 1316 S. Pennsylvania Ave along the Lansing River Trail which gives walkers and bikers quiet access to the Red Cedar River. This one-acre park has mature trees and benches—yet it has no parking or restrooms—making it a simple pause for trail users.  Lansing State Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Malls in the Lansing area will open on Black Friday, November 28, with holiday shoppers noting that retailers are closed on Thanksgiving, November 27. Lansing Mall in Lansing Township will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. — Meridian Mall in Okemos will run from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Lansing State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands of neighbors will gather outside the state capitol in Lansing for the 41st annual Silver Bells Electric Light Parade as the holiday season begins. Neighbors have shared their top spots to watch the parade in which local high school bands & floats have celebrated community spirit since 1997.  FOX 47

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State officials announced yesterday more than $600,000 in RAP grant funding to support the Gillespie Group project redeveloping six historic properties on East Michigan Avenue in the Stadium District. The $7.2 million project will transform older buildings to add 15 housing units and nearly 7,000 square feet of commercial space — an effort supported by multiple funding sources.  Lansing State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan DNR is asking hunters to shoot a doe this season to reduce deer-vehicle crashes and prevent the spread of diseases—officials note that a $20 universal license is available through the DNR Hunt Fish app or licensed vendors.  WJIM AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers can now use the nearly 4-mile stretch of U.S. 127 between I-96 and I-496 as of today after two seasons of work, although some ramp and lane closures remain for detail work. MDOT will shift its focus north in 2026 to rebuild the freeway from I-69 to just south of Lake Lansing Road, and further improvements are planned through 2028.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State women's soccer advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 1-0 win over Wake Forest & Kayla Briggs scored the only goal with a stunning finish. The Spartans will host Colorado on Sunday at 1 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium & try to advance past the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.  The State News
  • No. 2 seed MSU women’s soccer will host No. 3 seed Colorado in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament at DeMartin Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.—the Spartans hope a strong crowd will help them make history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time.  The State News
  • Michigan State football's starting quarterback, Alessio Milivojevic, was sacked 12 times in two games and was hurt after a late hit in the loss to Penn State—he will face Iowa's tough defense today at 3:30 p.m. at Kinnick Stadium.  Lansing State Journal
  • At Breslin Center, Michigan State beat Eastern Illinois 101-53 as sophomore forward Juliann Woodard scored 17 points in under 14 minutes and the team forced 27 turnovers while giving up six. The Spartans will host Oakland on Sunday at 2 p.m.—they now prepare for their next game.  The State News
  • The 2026 Midwestern Sectional Singles and U.S. Pairs Final was held from November 17–21 at Biggby Coffee Ice Cube in East Lansing where over 300 skaters competed for a spot at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Louis. Organizers and officials managed travel and schedule challenges while top finishers advanced toward Nationals or Development Camp.  The State News
