COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Lansing furniture store gave away 200 free turkeys on Saturday to help families prepare for Thanksgiving. CEO Ehab Awad hopes the event will inspire other local businesses to give back + residents lined up quickly to pick up a meal centerpiece.  FOX 47
  • Michigan neighbors gathered for the Silver Bells 5K in Lansing, where funds were raised to support at-risk youth programs—Detroit transplant Ryan Kachnowski won first place in his debut race.  FOX 47

  • Lansing restaurants are offering a variety of warm soup options this chilly season. Local eateries such as Soup Spoon Café and Leo's Lodge serve daily specials (including chicken noodle, seafood chowder, and pepper jack crab soup) along with unique choices like hot pot and ramen.  WJIM AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • On November 22, Greater Lansing high school teams played in the MHSAA football state semifinals; DeWitt met Warren De La Salle at Grand Blanc and Pewamo-Westphalia faced Menominee in Gaylord at 1 p.m.—in Division 2, Portland St. Patrick played Felch North Dickinson at the Superior Dome at 2 p.m.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State’s hockey team tried to tie the game late on Saturday when freshman Porter Martone scored with 39.8 seconds left, but Wisconsin scored in overtime to win the match. The Badgers swept the series — taking five of six points and ending the Spartans’ nine-game win streak.  Lansing State Journal
  • On Friday night, MSU hockey lost 5-4 to No. 7 Wisconsin after an early 2-0 lead fell apart when the Badgers scored four second-period goals—dropping the Spartans to 9-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play.  The State News
  • Traverse Moore ran for 320 yards and scored four touchdowns to help the DeWitt Panthers beat Warren De La Salle 41-20 in the Division 3 state semifinal at Grand Blanc High School on Nov. 22. He surpassed 2,000 rushing yards this season and now prepares for the state title game against Mount Pleasant next week.  Lansing State Journal
