ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Lansing cleared heavy snow from Nov. 30th—snowfall ranged from 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches—and now expect another storm to drop 1 to 2 inches tonight. City officials extended the Code Blue plan with Letts Community Center serving as an overnight warming center until Dec. 6th.  Lansing State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan State football plans to hire former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald as its new coach after firing Jonathan Smith; his contract is not yet signed. Concerns linger because he was once linked to a hazing scandal at Northwestern — a matter that may affect his return.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith said he does not know if he will return for 2026 as he and athletic director J Batt continue discussions after the Spartans beat Maryland 38-28 on Nov. 29—he finished a 4-8 season and his future remains uncertain amid lingering NCAA issues. The decision will come as further talks between Smith and Batt develop in the coming days.  Lansing State Journal
  • Michigan State fired football coach Jonathan Smith Sunday after a tenure of less than two years and a record of 9 wins and 15 losses—athletic director J Batt made the decision following several Big Ten losses. The school now faces a contract payout of over 30 million dollars and will soon begin its search for a new coach.  WKAR
  • Alante 'Cadillac' Brown’s 92-yard kickoff return sparked a fourth-quarter comeback that gave Michigan State its first Big Ten win of the season—38-28 over Maryland.  The State News
  • Michigan State's No. 21 women's basketball team beat Clemson 72 to 64 in the title game of the Baha Mar tournament in Nassau on November 30—Kennedy Blair recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Rashunda Jones scored four points in the final minute to help the Spartans improve to 8 to 0.  Lansing State Journal
  • Traverse Moore broke the state title game record with 397 rushing yards on 32 carries and four touchdowns in a 54-20 win as DeWitt earned its second state title last Sunday, November 30. He gained 717 yards with eight touchdowns in the state semifinal and final games—he will join Central Michigan as a running back.  Lansing State Journal
