- ➤ Researchers report seasonal ice is forming on the Great Lakes as 0.47% coverage was measured on Dec. 2 and inch-thick ice is developing on parts of Lake Superior, while daily tracking continues with peak ice expected mid-February — officials will monitor changes closely. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Lansing planners sold a long-unused parking lot near the Board of Water & Light to UK-based Deep Green despite opposition to a zoning change. The city council will decide if the 24-megawatt data center will begin construction in early 2026, promising tax revenue and carbon-neutral heat. WKAR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ McLaren Greater Lansing launched its Mobile Clinic, a doctor’s office on wheels offering checkups + referrals. The fully-equipped RV is stationed at New Hope Community Center every Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon, with plans to expand. Stacks 92.1
- ➤ Michigan health officials urge residents age 6 months and older to get a flu shot to lower severe complications from a new variant called subclade K. Over 2 million residents have been vaccinated so far + the 21% coverage indicates there is room for improvement. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Michigan State football, led by new coach Pat Fitzgerald in East Lansing, entered its early signing period on Dec. 3 with 19 committed prospects for the 2026 class, which 247 Sports ranked No. 39 nationally. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ East Lansing's KJ Torbert, a two-time all-state player who helped win the Division 1 title in March, now aims to lead his team to a repeat championship and compete for the Mr. Basketball award as his season opens tomorrow against Rockford — carrying on his father's legacy. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ Michigan State defeated Iowa 71-52 on Tuesday as the Spartans held star guard Bennett Stirtz to 14 points + secured 37 rebounds. The win improved their record to 8-0 and sets the stage for a game with Duke on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Breslin Center. The State News
