  • Old Newsboys supplied warm boots, socks and shoes for children in mid-Michigan on Dec. 5 as local donations supported the charity’s century-old mission. Sales Day Chair Jill Bowen said volunteering helped each child start school with both warmth (and dignity).  Lansing State Journal

  • SPIN Bicycle Shop in Old Town, a community favorite for 18 years, will close on Dec. 19 or when items sell out, as the owners thank customers for their longstanding support. The store has offered items at 50% off or more since its closure announcement (Nov. 12).  WJIM AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Old Town hosts its annual Krampusnacht event (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.) with nearly 10,000 visitors expected to boost local shops.  FOX 47
  • Stranger Things Season 5 finale will have limited screenings on Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 1 in theaters. Lansing fans can view the finale at Celebration Cinema on Edgewood and NCG Eastwood Cinemas at Eastwood Towne Center—tickets are available now.  WJIM AM
  • A touring production of The Wiz will run from Tuesday, Dec. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 14 at Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall. The updated version, directed by Schele Williams, reimagines the classic musical with reworked music and costumes (tickets start at $36 with student and youth discounts).  Lansing State Journal

  • Michigan State University will hold Fall commencement ceremonies on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, with advanced degree recipients celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 and seniors from various colleges scheduled on Dec. 13 inside the Breslin Center (live streaming is available).  The State News
  • Michigan State's athletic department reached its $1 billion campaign half mark by receiving a record-breaking $401 million gift from Acrisure CEO Greg Williams and his wife Dawn on Friday, Dec. 5 at Breslin Center (East Lansing).  Lansing State Journal

  • MSU’s No. 7 team hosts No. 4 Duke today at Breslin Center at noon+ a crucial NCAA Tournament test, as Coach Tom Izzo said his Spartans will rely on tough defense after a strong win against Iowa.  The State News
  • MSU coach Pat Fitzgerald is keen to retain key players as the transfer portal window opens today — a crucial move to build the 2026 roster — focusing on receivers Nick Marsh and Chrishon McCray and linebacker Jordan Hall.
