- ➤ Volunteers are gathering today for the No Senior Without Christmas event to pack 400 boxes with essential household items + holiday cheer for home-bound, low-income seniors in Lansing. The annual event, started in 2000, supports seniors during the festive season. Stacks 92.1
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MSU held its first holiday lighting ceremony at Beaumont Tower Monday evening to mark the end of the fall semester and kick off the holiday season. Students, staff & scholarship recipients gathered outside in freezing weather to sip hot cocoa and celebrate this new campus tradition. The State News
- ➤ A nearly $117,000 grant will update equipment in Eaton RESA’s Fabrication and Garage Labs so elementary students can explore manufacturing, welding and automotive trades; the labs will feature augmented reality welding systems + 3D printers for hands-on learning. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Holt Public Schools Superintendent Dr. David Hornak announced at Monday's Board of Education meeting that he will retire at the end of 2026 (after more than 30 years of service), allowing time for a thoughtful succession plan. FOX 47

- ➤ The winter solstice will begin at 10:03 a.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 21, marking the shortest day of winter with about 9 hours of sunlight in Michigan + Lansing sunrise is at 8:05 a.m. and sunset at 5:07 p.m., signaling winter’s start and a gradual return of light. Lansing State Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials reported that cases of norovirus—a fast-moving stomach virus—have doubled in labs statewide, causing symptoms like nausea & diarrhea. They recommend washing hands & disinfecting common surfaces to slow the spread. WJIM AM
- ➤ UM Health-Sparrow was ranked among the nation's best for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report, and the hospital sees about 3,500 births each year. It is one of 11 Michigan hospitals to earn the high performing title. Lansing State Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Desmond Ferguson, founder of Moneyball Sportswear, is launching a new adult men's basketball league that will run weekends from Jan. 31 through Feb. 28 in Lansing, Detroit, Flint, and Grand Rapids. Teams will play at local high schools, with the championship at Lansing Eastern High School. Lansing State Journal
- ➤ Michigan State's Karolina Staniszewska earned her first All-Big Ten honor after a record-breaking junior season. She led MSU in kills and played 112 of 113 sets for a team with its best season since 2017; the honor was announced Tuesday. The State News
