  • MSU senior guard Trey Fort donated part of his NIL earnings by purchasing grocery bags for those in need, offering a boost to local community members.  Lansing State Journal
  • The Ingham County Sheriff's Office hosted its 24th annual Shop with a Hero event Thursday evening, pairing 90 elementary students with first responders for holiday shopping and community bonding. Families enjoyed a positive start to the festive season.  FOX 47

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lansing School District updated its athletics code on Dec. 11, limiting high school event attendance to enrolled students or those from opposing schools who must show school IDs, and requiring younger students to be accompanied by a parent or guardian (a measure taken after minor incidents).  Lansing State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lansing extended its Code Blue plan until 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 to provide extra shelter hours, free bus rides and overnight warming services at Letts Community Center (other community centers and libraries also offer winter relief).  FOX 47
  • Lansing city leaders outlined a new snow removal plan on Wednesday that prioritizes plowing main streets and CATA bus routes before moving to residential areas in brutal cold weather. Crews will make multiple passes on over 400 miles of road (residents must clear sidewalks within 24 hours after snow stops).  FOX 47
  • The IRS warns Michigan residents to be alert for holiday tax scams involving phishing emails and smishing texts (especially targeting seniors) and advises them to verify messages on official IRS channels before sharing any personal details.  WJIM AM

  • MSU women's soccer ended its season ranked No. 7, marking the highest finish in program history. Coach Hosler said the team built a strong foundation — earning key accolades and record wins despite falling short of a trophy, which sets an optimistic stage for next season.  The State News
