- ➤ Chapelure, a popular coffee shop and bakery in East Lansing, will close permanently on Saturday, Dec. 20 after nearly 18 years of service (since 2008), giving locals one last chance to enjoy its coffee and pastries. WJIM AM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Alma native Pete Johnston (41), an MSU faculty member, is set to return to Jeopardy! tomorrow in the 2025 Second Chance Tournament after finishing close to champion Scott Ricciardi in July. He will compete with eight other returning players for a slot in the Tournament of Champions. Lansing State Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA projects a record 3.9 million Michiganders will travel at least 50 miles from Dec. 20 to Jan. 1, with about 3.5 million driving while nearly 219,200 fly. In Lansing, drivers pay around $2.86 per gallon and are advised to fill up and plan ahead. Bridge Michigan

- ➤ Governor Whitmer declared (making student literacy her final-year focus) the top priority for her final term during the Michigan Literacy Summit in Detroit yesterday; she said every child reads and will narrow district strategies to focus on phonics ahead of her final State of the State address. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council will vote early next year on Deep Green's conditional rezoning request for a $120 million data center planned on Kalamazoo Street in downtown Lansing, with the project promising carbon-neutral heat and over $1 million in annual benefits for the city & facing mixed reviews from local residents. - ➤ MDOT says the ramp from westbound I-96 to northbound U.S. 127 is closed from 7 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 for striping and traffic control removal, and intermittent closures will affect the ramp from southbound U.S. 127 to Dunckel Road. Lansing State Journal

- ➤ ReBoost 20 mL nasal spray has been recalled in Michigan after tests detected yeast, mold and bacteria (lot 224268) that may lead to infections for immunocompromised users. Consumers should stop using the product and return it for a refund. WJIM AM
- ➤ Local experts say the holiday season can boost feelings of grief and loneliness in Lansing. The Live Well center and a UM Health Sparrow psychiatrist advise residents to talk openly with loved ones and seek support to ease seasonal depression. FOX 47
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is using opioid settlement funds to invest $37.5 million in recovery housing for people with substance use disorder. The department plans to add 3,647 new beds in underserved communities by 2028 (aiming to reduce housing barriers). Michigan Public Radio
